Legion Cows Go Green

“Why Wonder? I am green and it’ll do fine. It’s beautiful, and I think it’s what I want to be.”

In August of this year, Legion Brewing released ‘Orange Cow,’ a creamsicle-inspired, Milkshake Double IPA. Brewed with lactose, whole vanilla beans, and hand-zested oranges, Orange Cow was a full-bodied beer with a silky-smooth finish. Our customers stormed the barnyard for this beer, so naturally we followed it up with another spin of the color wheel, creating Pink Cow, which boasted a grapefruit infusion.

For the third rendition of our ‘Cow Series,’ we are proud to present Green Cow (Lactose Double IPA, 7.8% ABV, 77 IBUs). This brew includes many of the same ingredients as its bovine cousins plus – you guessed it – hand-zested and juiced limes, which complement the inherent citrus notes from Equinox, El Dorado, and Mosaic hops. Heaps of oats elevate Green Cow to Imperial Status, while also serving as a smoothing counterbalance to any citrus-derived acidity.

“Green Cow represents another solid edition to our Cow Series. In this, our third batch, we’ve dialed up the perfect amount of vanilla beans to balance the hop bitterness without overpowering the hop presence,” notes Associate Brewer, Scott Griffin. “I’m also really pleased at the way the lime flavors come through in Green Cow’s aroma, creating a mouthwatering moment of pure expectation. This would be a tremendous beer for me to enjoy with friends at an unassuming, local burger joint – a noisy place centered around an old-school brass bar and high-top tables with plenty of napkins and all of my favorite condiments.”

While we hope Scott gets to enjoy a Green Cow at his favorite burger joint, we also invite all IPA fans and milkshake lovers to stop into the Taproom for a pint. It’s not every day that you can enjoy a milkshake-style beer with a strong fruit flavor and loads of hops – unless you stop into Legion and declare your intention to explore being green for a glass or two, that is. And tell ‘em Kermit sent you…
