Vault to New Highs

- by Bill Craver

Legion Brewing is proud to be an official sponsor of the second annual Charlotte Street Vault, which hits the streets later this week on July 21st and July 22nd. In fact, we are so excited about our association with the upcoming Street Vault that our Brewers decided to make a special beer marking the occasion.

Now sprinting down the runway: “A Good Plant Gets You High” (Lemon/Ginger Farmhouse Ale; 5.3% ABV, 21 IBUs). This refreshing summertime brew boasts an herbal spiciness balanced by a tangy effervescence. We are confident that pole vaulters and beer enthusiasts alike will enjoy this delicious Farmhouse Ale brewed with locally-sourced grains, lemons and freshly-grated NC ginger. Imagined and created especially for Charlotte Street Vault, a portion of proceeds from event sales will benefit the event’s primary nonprofit recipients, Levine Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network.

According to Assistant Brewer, James Rutledge, ‘A Good Plant Gets You High’ is “as refreshing as a field of sunflowers on a Sunday afternoon.” High on this beer, high on life, or high on something else, we’re marking James’ comment as a pretty strong endorsement for this Summertime, patio-drinker.

A bit more scientific in her assessment of this brew, Head Brewer, Alexa Long adds, “We selected lemon and ginger, because they bring complimentary flavors to the strain of Saison yeast that we used to make ‘A Good Plant Gets You High.’ The tartness of the lemons and the subtle spice of ginger add to the soft fruity notes and dry, spicy flavors contributed by the yeast.”

For those interested, the 2017 Charlotte Street Vault will take place outside of the Broken Spoke. Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success, and organizers are looking to reach even greater heights this time around. Legion Brewing will be pouring ‘A Good Plant Gets You High’ for participants, spectators and festival-goers. We look forward to seeing everyone, sharing this delicious brew, and checking out all of the festivities!
