Saturday Night Stinger Takes the Dance Floor

‘Saturday Night Stinger' Takes the Dance Floor

- by Bill Craver

“Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk. I’m a woman’s man – no time to talk…”

  • Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees

In the 1977 film, Saturday Night Fever, a Brooklyn teenager escaped the realities of his life each weekend at the local discothèque – eventually becoming champion of the disco floor. Just as it was with Tony Manero, sometimes a beer needs a little something extra, a gentle push to break away from the pack.

That’s exactly what the Legion Brew Staff did with its latest brew, a classic Saison founded upon a malt bill comprised of Pilsner, Wheat, and Rye malts. What was that something extra? That little bit of love that pushed this one over the top? In this case, it was 50 pounds local Wildflower Honey added to the whirlpool.

Now taking the dance floor, Saturday Night Stinger (Honey-Rye Saison, 6.5% ABV, 33 IBUs). Heaps of local Wildflower Honey combine with a classic Saison yeast to produce a highly-drinkable brew with a sweet, enticing aroma offering the essence of dried fruits and fields of wildflowers. A strong malt bill imparts a rich spiciness and a hazy, golden hue.

“Saturday Night Stinger, being a Saison, fits well with our goals of being a farmhouse-style brewery that uses local ingredients. With this brew, the sweetness of the honey balances out the starker, spicier contribution of the rye malt,” declares Associate Brewer, Scott Griffin. “The result is a beer that is softer than some of the IPA’s and sours that are currently available in the Taproom. Saturday Night Stinger is the perfect choice for a relaxing night out – a beer that will allow you to enjoy the evening without knocking you off your feet.”

We think Scott is on point with his comments and invite everyone to escape to Legion for a Saturday Night Stinger. Similar to the way that Tony Manero found an outlet through his close-knit group of friends and weekend dancing, we are firm believers in the power of ‘Friends and Beer.’ There’s something out there for everyone – even if your dance moves aren’t quite as sweet as John Travolta’s…
